we bought a car! and the clustering of major life events

After picking it out two weeks ago and then waiting for a recall to be done on it, we bought a new car! It’s a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and it has more bells and whistles than you can shake a stick at – adaptive cruise control, a fancy surround view of the car that looks like it was constructed by a wizard sitting on top of the car, a helpful nudge on the steering wheel when you start to leave your lane, and a bunch of other stuff we haven’t figured out yet. It’s also a plug-in hybrid (hence the name) that gets 30ish miles on a charge!

Also, it is blue.

For not the first time, it struck me that my major life events really tend to cluster. I graduated from Rice in 2003 and things were quiet for a bit. In 2006-2007:
– David got his PhD
– we both got jobs up in DC
– moved up to DC
– decided we missed Austin
– we both got jobs in Austin
– moved back to Austin

Then six months later we bought a house and a year later we had a commitment ceremony.

Then things were quiet for a while, buuuuut:
2015 – started the surrogacy process
2016 – prepared for Vanessa, Vanessa was born!
2017 – raising Vanessa, started surrogacy for baby #2, looked for a house, started building a house
2018 – finished building a house, moved into said house, still raising Vanessa, got old house fixed up to sell, sold old house (hopefully soon!), prepared for baby #2, baby #2 was born (definitely soon!)

Anyway, 2019 is going to be amazing(ly quiet), is what we keep telling ourselves!
