Yesterday the Astros were down by 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning with no one on and 2 outs. Miraculously, they managed to win by 2 runs!
How unlikely is that? Well, if we look at the handy-dandy Win Expectancy Finder, at that point the Astros had a 99.8% chance to lose. Out of 5000 previous situations, only in 10 of them had the team come back to win! (since 1957)
(admittedly, if you look at the situation where the home team is down by 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, the team only has a 99.47% chance of losing, and it’s happened 25 times. But still!)
