Seriously, Texas?

From this poll:

QUESTION: Do you think Texas would be better off as an independent nation or as part of the United States of America?

US IND NOT SURE
ALL 61 35 4
DEMOCRATS 82 15 3
REPUBLICANS 48 48 4
INDEPENDENTS 55 40 5

You’re telling me that 48% of Republicans in Texas think we’d be better off seceding?

  1. If you don’t secede, then TEH GEYZ will come and eat your children!!! (Or something. I don’t follow the mindset myself.)

  2. Well, Texas does get only 97 cents back for every dollar it sends to the US in federal taxes. And Texas has plenty of nukes and plenty of oil and energy. It’s really not a clear-cut question 🙂 Don’t forget that liberals also joked about secession in the aftermath of the 2004 election. I think it’s a little unfair that as liberals we can make jokes about immigrating to Canada when the leadership is the opposition party, but that we then mock conservatives when they are put in an analogous situation.

    1. I guess there’s a difference between a joke and people answering a survey (not to mention the governor mentioning it out loud). Maybe I’m misestimating how seriously people take surveys 🙂

  3. All I can do is remind you that these are the same people who voted for W. not only once, but twice. Fool me once, shame on me; fool me twice, I’m a Republican…
